Dayne strode past quiet tents and dark cabins as he completed his pre-dawn patrol of the the Remnant’s newest home. Collin had chosen well when he suggested the abandoned luxury camp: each family could have their own tent or cabin for privacy; and the camp already had dining, medical, security, and administrative facilities. “Lochfa?” Tassark laughed. “This is the best the Sprytath could send?” The lochfa were a ceremonial guard — a token force at best. Farmers clearing new land saw more combat dealing with durgee warrens than the lochfa saw in their temple duties. He looked to his own guards and smirked. “Try not to damage them too much. SoT:Firesong Part 16 – Entwined (Part 2)

Lush, untamed fields gently sloped to a pristine lake where sunlight shimmered on crystalline water. Thick groves of lunalist trees grew at the edges of the field, their leaves stirred in the breeze and filled the air with the scent of vanilla and clove. Beyond the trees, steep hills defined the lake basin, rising to taller cliffs and a waterfall at the far end of the lake. It was no wonder the Advisors ordered a new lodge built here. The scent of seared meat and spices greeted Caelynn, Lincon, and Dayne as they returned to Elyoniem. They entered the common room to find Collin in the kitchen, julienning fresh quiver root. The dining table was already laid out with an assortment of dumplings, stuffed leaves, and cheeses, and judging by the numbers of bowls, pots, and pans along the counters, they were just the beginning.
